What is Meditation?

It is hard to actually define what mediation is as it is different to each individual. There are many forms of meditation and different approaches and understandings of this practice.

The closest definition that would be spiritually, scientifically and generally agreed upon is that it is an altered state of consciousness of which the participant consciously decides to undertake.

Where does the idea of meditation come from? Meditation has been practiced for 100s of years, in fact most religions and cultures across the world have and still do participate in some form of meditative practice. It just depends on the religious, cultural and social group as to what it is called and to what level of altered state of consciousness is achieved.

Meditation is a powerful way to achieve deep relaxation and sustained well being. We offer regular meditation classes in Berkshire and South Oxfordshire.
